Satanic Bloodspraying

At The Mercy of Satan

Hells Headbangers 2012

You don't hear about a lot of bands hailing from Bolivia, and maybe the world is safer for it.  At least based on the aural violence that ensues as soon as you start playing the debut album from Satanic Bloodspraying.  Total rhythmic destruction is unleashed as the first track, Draining Blood, streams forth from the speakers.  Speedy drums and straight-ahead riffs drill into your skull leaving nothing but a bloody mess.  The song is quickly over, only to have more sonic carnage take its place in the form of Satanic Skullfuck.  There is a VON-ish level of minimalist primitivism on display here as the riffs are repetitive and the drum line is a constant pounding.  A more developed and melodic opening riff sets the mood of Tetragrammaton.  And then we are "treated" once again to repetitive sawing guitars and hammering drums.  However this time the song has an undercurrent of black thrash and a hint of catchiness in the riff.  A simplistic and atmospheric synth line makes an appearance during the hypnotic Necro Dominatrix.  Taking a different approach, March of The Dead is a mid-tempo stomp with bombastic drum lines that remind me at times of Immortal or certain Bathory songs.  Wrath of Baal once again picks up the pace and erupts into apocalyptic aggression.  But here we start to see the limitations of this style of songwriting.  It's been done before but lacks some of the novelty of earlier bands.  However, you can still feel the sincerity within the pulsing guitars and barbaric drums of each song.  As the title-track bring the short (24 minutes) full-length to a close, this track explodes with hatred and a frenzy of guitars and drums.  Satanic Bloodspraying is lacking in complexity and subtlety, but that suits them just fine as originality and inventive songwriting are not the goal.  At The Mercy of Satan is an album of sheer, straight ahead aggression and violence.
