Undeathronable
Decreation
Devoted Art Propaganda 2009
These
days France is well known in the extreme metal community for its
experimental black metal bands (Blut Aus Nord, Deathspell Omega, etc.).
With that said, the country plays host to some extreme minded
traditionalists as well. An opening salvo of insanely rapid beats
and cold riffs spray out like a wall of blasting black metal on
Undeathroneable Superior Blackmetal Hymn. The drum speed is only
achievable using a drum machine, which for me actually adds to the
totalitarian tone of the music. An orchestral movement and grim
vocals usher in the freezing riffs of The Hateful Torment. The
obscurity of the vocals and the distant melodic style of the guitars
combine for an abyssic mood as the song continues and I am a little
reminded of elements from Dodheimsgard's Satanic Art. A bouncing
riff is immediately swept under by a blast beat and Nordic melody as
Erase the Past gets underway. The song has a similar feeling as
Under A Funeral Moon era Darkthrone, but with a more modern approach.
Deep, hollow melodies impose a sense of a shroud of deathly mist
descending across the texture of the album. The insane speed of
the beats creates a hissing white-noise effect for the tracks which is
increasingly noticeable as the album progresses. It is certainly
a factor during the dissonant guitar barrage of Dusk of Humanity.
Despite the modern trappings of a drum machine, the stark
coldness and merciless cruelty of the music dominate the mood the
album. The music found here is certainly not groundbreaking or
even remotely original. However, it is played with conviction and
the songwriting has a singular focus. On Decreation,
Undeathronable simultaneously exhale lifeless frost and incinerating
death.
