This 2
song EP of raucous, punked-up metal is the result when you get 2 of
Norway's hardest street metallers together. These two hellions
happen to be Tore Bratseth of The Batallion and Bard Faust of Blood
Tsunami. Up first is the massively catchy ode to
Ramones/Screeching Weasel punk called 1980s Lady. After the
seductive female voice beckons you to enter the music, some dirty and
primitive, but somehow warm, punk-metal jumps out of the speakers.
The music casts images of a beer-soaked pit full of fun and
bright lights, studs and leather swirling against sweaty flesh.
The vocals are raw enough to be harsh but are still surprisingly
smooth and catchy. Then the title-track kicks in a heavier dose
of driving Motorhead along with thrashing punk! The main riff is
such a scorcher it chars everything in its wake. It's like the
musical equivalent to a Ford Mustang burning up the desert highways,
all cigarettes and booze! The vocals are step up the
harshness as well, tougher and harder, like a hyena spitting nails!
It is unclear as to whether these two will unite for any more
Studfaust material, but after experiencing this rough and infectious
EP, I can only hope and pray for a full length in the future. So
if you like your Motorhead with a heaping slab of early punk and a
slight hint of 80s/90s pop-punk, then Studfaust will please your ears
to no end! I know mine received instant gratification!
