Superchrist

Headbangers 2012
From
the talented mind that brought you Dawnbringer and the godly High
Spirits comes Superchrist. With Superchrist, think of a dirtier,
rougher, more punked up version of High Spirits. There is a
definite stylistic link between the two bands which is evidenced on the
adrenaline infused opener, Run To The Night. While not as overtly
melodic and clean as High Spirits you can hear insane hooks and the
smooth chorus that draws you in despite the raw guitars and unpolished
edges of the song. A more punk ROCK influence is injected into
Take Me To The Graveyard. And then the punk aspect totally
overtakes Hot Tonight as it hurtles along at a million miles an hour.
It sorta reminds me of what Dag Nasty might have sounded
like if they were around in the late 70s. Rock N Roll solos
abound within the song. A Motorhead dynamic permeates the riffing
on Get Lost. The immediacy of the songwriting mirrors the whiskey
fueled anthems that Lemmy normally writes. My favorite song on
the album though is the epic Black Thunder. A central riff that
evokes the glory days of metal and a toe-tapping pace make me want to
lean back with a bottle of tequila and nod my head to this captivating
song. There is some excellent drum work towards the end of the
song that just blows my mind. More Punk-filled aggression rips
through PAMF. Some metallized Down By Law circulates the
lightning quick song. And I still detect the spirit of Motorhead
lurking in the shadows of the bass guitar heavy Sewer Snake. You
can also detect the bluesy bar room menace of George Thorogood AS the
track meanders along and simmers into a lengthy guitar solo. If
you like High Spirits but always thought they were too clean, then
Superchrist has the remedy for that feeling. The catchy,
sing-along traditional metal of High Spirits has been punked up and
roughed up and what you have is some damn fine beer metal!
