Witches Of God
The Blood Of Others

Of God

LA's
doomy rockers, Witches Of God have brewed up their debut album and
spilled it forth upon humanity in the form of The Blood Of Others.
After a campy horror synth we get to the heart of the issue on
the album's opener, Devils II. Bouncy Sabbath riffs hit full
stride and give you a definite indication of where things are headed.
Some killer breaks and ancient stoner vibe drive the track
further into a forest of lumbering, fuzzy riffs. Long, lethargic
guitars and sultry vocals arc across a nebulous soundscape as Devils
III gets underway. The track then drops into massive, throbbing
riffs and the vocals become more authoritative pounding like a hammer
in their lyrical delivery. Then the song rips into some speedy
passages and a jam session sounding set of guitar solos. First
Love is more like an LA hard rock song. You can smell the booze
and feel the grit of a sweaty club in ever note of the catchy chorus
and fiery riffs. Unlike the previous song, the title-track
utilizes stretched out riffs and tribal drums to set the mood before
amping up the power and the guitar noodling. The song is
ponderous and expansive in its sound when operating in its slowest
moments, and the constantly slithers soloing adds a bit of fire to the
mix. Devils drags us into some more midtempo doom rock. The
riffs are ominous but the vocals and guitar dynamics are hard-rock to
the core, especially the chorus. A somewhat, more rustic and
folky side of the band is displayed on Chasing Coffins as they ramble
along with nostalgic leads and washed out vocals that tremble and
warble as they are warped. Witches Of Blood take a slightly
approach than most of their doomier peers by incorporating a healthy
dose of old LA style hard rock into the mix to give the music a
grittier, more energetic overall feel. Doom on!!!
