Sourvein
Ghetto Angel
Dark Reign Recordings 2007
North Carolina's Sourvein dishes out dirty and sludgy doom metal with a mean
southern vibe. Certainly not for the faint of heart. At times this
four song EP reminds me of Eyehategod with is pitch black darkness and tar thick
sludge coating each song. Like being beat down with a pipe in a back
alley, Nightwing bruises the listener with toxic thick guitar riffs. Slow
motion rhythms and grimy grooves pounding out punishment on my ears are at the
core of Septic Werewolves. Doldrums sways ever so slowly in the breeze
like creosote treated tree trunks, bending and reeking with a slimy oil
indicative of the cancerous corruption within. Picking up the tempo ever
so slightly, D.I.L.L.I.G.A.F. adds a southern rock underbelly to this putrid
corpse. Hate-filled and corrosive layered vocals from T-Roy burn with the
subtlety of a blast furnace. Sourvein create black as tar pitch
atmosphere's with their style but in the end some of the effect is lost as it is
not tremendously memorable for anything other than the heroin aftermath feeling
you are left with when the EP finishes. More time should be spent on
creating memorable riffs as they already have a memorable mood.
