Windfaerer
Glorybound
Self Financed 2009
On their two
song demo New Jersey's Windfaerer, usher forth an era of pagan-inspired melodic,
blackened death. A folky violin lead rides the surface of In The Wake of
War as heathenish Gothenburg melodies populate the metallic landscape. A
rhythmic central passage gives way to a melody that brings to mind the days of
old all the while the song's tempo alternates between galloping mid-tempo
sections and blasting explosions. The Great Fire is up next and continues
with a fondness for the yesteryear. Melodic passages echo a middle-ground
between modern Dissection and latter-day At the Gates. The songwriting
resurrects a rustic aura which paints sweeping and forested landscapes bathed in
sunlight which are brought to mind through the use of nostalgic melodies.
Liz's Violin is used to bring those melodic leads into play rather than the
typical method utilizing guitars for that purpose. Muted guitars closing
out the track accent the realization that the era that lives within Windfaerer's
music exists no more and is but a faded, yet longed for, memory. The
carefree and laidback rural countryside of hilly and forested European
landscapes finds new life and breaths once again within the structure of
Windfaerer's songs. I am eager to hear what they can accomplish with a
full length album.
