Sextrash

Rape From Hell

Cogumelo Records 2006

How is the new Sextrash?  In a word,
Ferocious!  The new Sextrash is a beast of an album that slays the listener with a brutal ferocity I haven't heard in a long time.  In the intervening 14 years or so they have lost none of the ferocity they displayed on Sexual Carnage.  For those of you unfamiliar with Sextrash they are are brutal death thrash band similar in style to Sarcofago from their INRI album but with more variation in the riffs.  Rape From Hell opens with Suck Me and its Slayer-esque drum riff combo that is overrun locomotive style by a firestorm of speedy drumming and riffing.  There is no subtlety here either in the music or lyrics as evidenced by the passage " suck me you fucking Bitch!"  On Lust, Money, and Violence it starts off and brings to mind some of the riffing of the early Stockholm scene.  Of course that eventually gives way to some brutal as hell blasting from the drums.  Incidentally that song's title pretty much sums up the lyrical approach/content of Sextrash, sex and violence, usually combined.  My favorite song is Obscure Doors with its haunting main riff that sounds so deep and hollow like the echoing of the wind off canyon walls.  Sweet Suffering continues on with a similar riff style that evokes the same sort imagery in my head as Obscure Doors.  Dooms vocals are the perfect compliment to the music that are heavy and growly enough to be death metal yet retain a raspy quality that keeps the link to their thrashier origins alive.  The artwork on this album is a perfect visual accompaniment to the music on Rape From hell, combining themes of Sex, Darkness, Death and evokes a certain need to inflict violence upon ones sexual partner!  Women Beware!  This is possibly my favorite album to come out of South America in quite a long time.  It is good to see that their new album was a lot more interesting and engaging than some of the other releases by some of the old school Brazilian crew such as the new Holocausto.  AS great as this album is I find it a little bittersweet because it makes me realize what has been missing all these years.  This music is Cruel to say the least and to quote Sextrash I am "Possessed by Cruelty."
