Walken

S/T

Self Financed 2009

Featuring two members (the male ones) of the exotic and progressive Grayceon.  Firmly planting a flag declaring the needs to push boundaries, album opener Watch it Burn dances through all spectrums with melodic leads over blistering thrash to the bizarre genre bending progressiveness that is distinctly Grayceon's style, and the vocals range from scratchy death metal vocals to strange clean ones.  Case in point is the soothing melodies that characteristically stumble like classic Grayceon but then burst into a full on galloping melody towards the end of Nadir.  Up next is the punk ROCK Running Out of Time that lurks towards the punk end of the spectrum while rallying around total coke-snorting rock riffs.  A stomping rock groove with Grayceon style leads introduces us to the power hungry notes of Thunder Paws where the occasional Sabbathy riff spreads ominous tones over the song.  Bitter Red might as well be a Grayceon song though at a significantly faster pace.  1/21/07 throbs with brooding anger courtesy of a pulsing bass guitar which climaxes in an orgy of drumming explosions and despairing layered vocals.  The song slowly drifts into solemn contemplation of crystaline, delicate guitars before rising up once more like a doom-laden gorgon.  If you liked the intricacies of Grayceon bought wondered how it might sound with beefed up thrash riffing as a backdrop then Walken should command your attention like nothing else.   Just like its music, a strange juxtaposition that feels both alien and comforting, Walken is a unique entity that smashes boundaries while providing a foundation of the familiar rather than straying too far afield.
