Brad's Tequila Reviews

I decided to combine my passion for metal music with my passion for the Mexican liquor, Tequila.  There is something about Tequila that transcends the enjoyment I feel for other types of alcohol.  Perhaps it is the warm and mellow drunk that it induces upon me.  Perhaps it is the smooth taste and the vast variety of brands and flavors.  Who knows for sure, but I hope that I can help some of you out there educate your shopping habits when it comes to searching for a good premium Tequila.  Especially for a lot of the Europeans out there who don't drink Tequila on a regular basis compared to North Americans.  Anyhow, here is a list of the tequilas I have tried and a short synopsis of how I felt they tasted.  This list will continue to grow as I try more brands of Premium Tequila.  By the way, Jose Cuervo in general is garbage and does not qualify as Tequila so if that is all you have had then it doesn't count.  heh heh.

3 Amigos Reposado

A mellow but noticeable smokiness accents the peppery spice of this Reposado.  There is a bit of sourness and woodiness to the tequila.  But there is a nice undercurrent of vanilla that lingers.  Unfortunately the flavor doesn't last long, otherwise this rating might be higher.

Rating: 3.5/5
 Patron Anejo

A spicy caramel flavor with hints of vanilla.  A little bit of an alcohol burn up front but with a nice lasting aftertaste that curves back in on itself by way of a mellow sourness.

Rating: 3/5

Patron Reposado

Smooth and with a little more depth and personality than its Silver version.  It has a warm flavor and a decent aftertaste of agave though with a little more alcohol burn than I would expect.

Rating: 3.5/5

Patron Silver

A clean and smooth flavor that is crisp on the tongue with hints of citrus and floral accents.  The Agave flavor lingers and tingles the edges of my tongue.  This is a gateway premium which opens the door to the really good stuff.

Rating: 3.5/5

Gran Patron Platinum

Crisp and smooth with warm agave and citrus accents.  Floral touched agave bursts with a cinnamon edge that lingers on the tongue with smoldering and crystalline intensity.  The best tequila I have yet tasted though a little on the pricey side.

Rating: 6/5

Acumbaro Silver

If you can get past the black floaty bits you will be treated by a pleasant tasting Silver.  A really clean and refreshing tequila with a sharp citrus flavor and a strong cinnamon aftertaste.

Rating: 4/5
Amate Reposado

A sweet chocolatey tequila that is smooth and silky.  The aftertaste is warm agave with hints of cinnamon and butter.  A really enjoyable tequila.

Rating: 4/5
Apocalypto Tequila Anejo

Earthy and woody with a decided sweetness, this Anejo glides across the tongue.  An undercurrent of butter and caramel is intertwined with an appealing roughness on its edge.  At certain points, a slight wave of sourness adds depth to this decidedly delicious tequila. I must also point out this is one of the coolest bottles out there with the divided Jaguar/Native American face.

Rating: 4.25/5
Apocalypto Tequila Reposado

Subtle cinnamon and butter hit your mouth initially as you swirl this delicious Reposado.  I love just holding this in my mouth and letting it rest as the full depth of the flavors reveals itself.  Hints of oak and a soft floral note rise to the surface.  One of the best reposados I have had in quite awhile.

Rating: 4.5/5
Apocalypto Tequila Blanco

Refreshing citrus floods my mouth with shades of caramel floating in at random times.  Pepper notes accent the main rush of flavor.  This is a really clean and smooth blanco.  It feels really wet in the mouth, if that makes sense.  Do yourself a favor and check Apocalypto blanco out.

Rating: 4/5
El Conde Azul Reposado

This possess a really clean first wave with warm caramel accents and a decent saltiness to its flavor.  The longer its sits in the mouth a brown sugar overtone becomes apparent.  It has an oily texture and slow burns on the back of tongue.

Rating: 4/5

AsomBroso Silver

Impressive packaging for a nice tequila.  Smooth and thick tequila with slight burn.  Sits heavily on the tongue.  A peppery Agave taste with undertones of sweetness.

Rating: 3.5/5

Tequila XQ Gran Reserva Anejo

A hint of smokiness coaxes out the vanilla and cinnamon of this smooth tequila.  This tequila also has a buttery undercurrent which I highly enjoy. The overall flavor is really light and airy.  Therein lies the crux of this tequila, it is delicious, but the flavor vanishes quickly.

Rating: 4/5

Tequila XQ Reposado

Initial wave has a small amount of chemical flavor and burn but the legs are long on this one as the agave flavor reveals itself in the extended and heavy aftertaste.  The main flavor is peppery with a vanilla undercurrent.  A decent middle of the road tequila.

Rating: 3/5

4 Copas Blanco

The nice peppery sweetness of Agave floods my mouth and coats it with a steady burn.  It lingers and remains consistent.  A strong tequila with a definite personality.

Rating: 4/5
1800 Anejo

A fair amount of burn accompanies the woody initial taste.  A bit oily in texture and it tingles the back of my tongue.  The flavor is strong and a somewhat acrid with a hint of brown sugar, smoke and pepper.

Rating: 2.5/5

Abandonado Anejo

A soft Vanilla flavor with buttery overtones and a hint of cinnamon and pepper on the edge of the tongue.  A surprising and delicious tequila.

Rating: 4.5/5
Arette Unique Reposado

A robust vanilla taste with a hint of wood, spices, and even the tiniest, most subtle flavor of mint strikes me as this delicious tequila washes over my tongue.  This tequila is exceptionally smooth and sits softly on the tongue.

Rating: 4.5/5
Arrogante Blanco

An earthy tequila that bursts with a flavor that is somewhere in the middle of Chocolate, peppers, and sour wood.  There is a sizeable burn on this one, but it reminds me of when I consume something really spicy instead of a harsh chemical burn.  This is an in-your-face tequila that is also smooth in spite of the burn.   It has a really nice softness about its texture.

Rating: 3.75/5
Avion Anejo

Being a celebrity tequila of sorts I wasn't expecting much from this.  However Avion Anejo is a pretty decent tequila with a light vanilla flavor, oak and floral accents are to be found as well.  It's smooth and light, maybe a little too much though, as the deepness and complexity of a normal anejo is somewhat lacking.  But I am not displeased as a sip this. You could certainly do worse and I am enjoying my first exposure to Avion.

Rating: 3.5/5
Avion Reposado

Avion once again surprises with a smooth tequila that is crisp and inviting.  An airy buttery vanilla flavor sets the mood as you sip it.  There is also a slight Spiciness that permeates the tequila.  This is one of the few tequilas where I find the Reposado is better than the Anejo.

Rating: 4/5
Avion Silver

A solid but unspectacular tequila.  Once again a soft buttery flavor with a hint of what I can only discern as bread.  It's really smooth and a has a bit of a spicy kick at the end but overall the flavors are pretty mild.

Rating: 3.0/5
Azunia Reposado

A light and peppery flavor with citrus notes.  Vanilla and oak rise up in the aftertaste with a slight saltiness as well.  A solid, middle-of-the-road tequila

Rating: 3.5/5
Calor Anejo

This one has grown on me slightly since i first tried it.  I was initially unimpressed, but I have started to warm up to its pepper and vanilla notes.  There are very subtle brown sugar and caramel accents lurking within this tequila beyond its opening saltiness.  However, for its price, there are better tequilas out there.

Rating: 3/5
Caramba Extra Anejo

A dusty, brown sugar flavor with earthy tones and a lingering sourness.  The lips were left tingling from the burn.

Rating: 4/5

Casamigos Reposado

A subtle smokiness and a slight bitterness flow across the tongue.  There is a nice burn but the tequila is still smooth.  I really like the vanilla/caramel overtones with this one.  George Clooney apparently has pretty good taste in tequila so it's no surprise that he chose this brand to put his name on.

Rating: 3.75/5
Casamigos Silver

One of the few times that I think a silver tequila beats out the Repsado version.  Casamigos has a vanilla pepper flavor that livens up my tongue.  There is no sourness to the tequila and a subtle oakiness with floral notes that really combines well with the already mentioned flavors.

Rating: 4/5
Chinaco Negro Extra Anejo

Extremely smooth, and delicious.  Has an initial sweetness with floral and vanilla accents.  the is a soft yet thick aftertaste of a caramel/choclolate.  The one problem with this tequila is the hefty price tag.

Rating: 5/5
Chinaco Anejo

Smooth with a light woody taste accentuated by hints of vanilla and brown sugar.  Light in the aftertaste and with a mild burn.

Rating: 4/5

Clase Azul Reposado

A warm, rich tequila, that is ultra smooth with hints of cinnamon and wood.  Subtle accents of vanilla and a cozy burn at the end.  One of the best tequilas I have had in a long time.

Rating: 5/5

Clase Azul Plata

Clase Azul once again blows me away with how delicious their tequila is.  The Plata is also warm and inviting with a sweet floral flavor.  Light notes of vanilla and brown sugar are buried in here too.  A playful bit of heat lingers on the edge of the tongue, almost like someone disolved a redhot in the liquid.

Rating: 5/5
Corrido Extra Anejo

A rich, robust tequila greets me as I dive into this Xmas present from my wife.  A comforting burn and a strong agave flavor is right up front with this one.  A deep smokiness and lush spiciness add depth and complexity to the overall presentation.  Hints of caramel and chocolate linger on as the tequila fades slowly.  This is a very delicious tequila.

Rating: 4.5/5
Corrido Reposado

If possible, I think I might actually like the Reposado even more than the Extra Anejo.  This is complex and robust.  Hints of caramel and vanilla coat the tongue while a buttery undercurrent with floral and oaky notes finishes off each swallow.  This is also a very delicious tequila.

Rating: 4.5/5
Corzo Anejo

Buttery sweetness initially with a light burn and a melding of smooth Agave and hint of chocolate.  I was very surprised at how much I liked this tequila.  Utterly delicious.

Rating: 4.5/5
Corzo Reposado

A clean buttery flavor settles across your tongue.  Floral notes deliver a a lightness to the tequila.  Hints of pepper and an energetic burn finish off the overall flavor.  A very clean tequila from a brand that never fails to deliver high quality tequila.

Rating: 4.5/5
Corzo Silver

A cinnamon and pepper flavor flow easily into my mouth while managing to not be overpowering.  Corzo Silver has a really nice balance to it.  The smooth oaky and floral notes combine well with the previously mentioned tones.  Corzo is one of my favorite brands for a reason.

Rating: 4/5
Cruz Del Sol Reposado

A A much peppery flavor than I was expecting when I bought this bottle.  This isn't a bad thing though.  A nice vanilla undercurrent sweeps across the back of my tongue.  This tequila has a really full flavor, it seems to just fill my mouth and nearly overwhelm my tastebuds.

Rating: 3.5/5
Tres Rios Reposado

In the battle of aged rock stars Vince Neil's tequila comes out ahead of Sammy's.  His tequila is almost sweet with strong vanilla notes and even a hint of butterscotch.  Not much of an aftertaste though.  Nothing fancy but a solid, smooth tequila.

Rating: 3.5/5
Del Maguey Single Village Chichicapa (Mezcal)

As with most mezcals Chichicapa has a robust smokey flavor and an alcohol bite that tingles the tongue.  But below that is a citrus sweetness and hints of vanilla that seduce my taste buds.  A fairly smooth and complex and enticing mezcal, possibly the best I have ever had.

Rating: 4.5/5
Del Maguey Single Village Minero (Mezcal)

Once again, since this is a mezcal so there is a noticeable smoke flavor that stands out initially.  But the complexities of Minero stand out as I am treated to floral and citrus flavors and a buried, but still present, note of Caramel.  A good Mezcal but not as good as some others I have had.

Rating: 4/5
Deleon Tequila Reposado

The Reposado version of this tequila is more robust than I would have anticipated.  It is smooth yet retains an earthy, smokey flavor that sets your mouth on fire.  There is a fiery spiciness that dominates your tongue and imposes its will on your mouth.  This is not a subtle tequila, yet it still tastes classy and smooth.

Rating: 4.5/5
Deleon Tequila Diamante

Delicious.  This tequila has a silvery texture and glides easily across the tongue.  There is a light caramel and vanilla falvor, which almost has a butterscotch aftertaste to it.  My only real problem with this line of tequila is the price.  This is their cheapest one, and it is $124 already.  But the packaging is amazing.

Rating: 4/5
La Cava De Don Agustin Reposado

A sweet caramel and floral taste with a fair amount of alcohol burn washes through my mouth but the soft aftertaste really gives this tequila life.  The flavor is accentuated by hints of Vanilla and honey.  I was tempted to rate this lower but there is something so appealing about this tequila.  It really has staying power for me.

Rating: 4/5

Don Alvaro Blanco

A clean and almost sweet flavored tequila with floral notes and hints of oak and apricots.  It is a quick hit though and then the flavors fade without much impact or burn.

Rating: 3.5/5

Don Camilo Anejo

An initial smokiness that gives way to peppery Agave with a clean vanilla and mildly sweet aftertaste.  The flavors linger on the tongue for quite awhile and there is a decent burn.

Rating: 4/5
Don Celso Reposado

Warm cinnamon and spicy vanilla are the core of the flavors with this tequila.  However at times it has a rough edge and a slight sour burn.  All in all it is a delicious tequila that sits well in the mouth.

Rating: 3.5/5
Don Julio Real

An even smoother and slightly sweeter version of the 1942 and still retains the oaky and buttery flavors accented by hints of vanilla.  The main problem here is the price, this one is expensive.

Rating: 6/5

Don Julio 1942

Buttery agave flavor with floral hints, accented by a mild sweetness and an enticing even burn that is nearly invisible to the tastebuds.  One of my two favorite tequilas of all time.

Rating: 6/5

Don Julio 70 Anos Anejo Claro

I'll be honest, I was expecting more.  This tequila has a subtle pepper taste with some chocolate/coffee undertones.  But the flavors aren't robust and for me it lacks the complexity of a traditional anejo.  However, this is as smooth as it gets and is still delicious.

Rating: 4/5
Don Julio Anejo

A sweet tasting Anejo with hints of butter and pepper.  A nice subtle burn around the edges of the tongue.  Sort of fades quickly and is not as robust as most Anejos.  But still a really good value.

Rating: 3.75/5

Don Julio Reposado

As with all Don Julio tequila, this one is smooth with a mild flavor which is layered with vanilla, brown sugar, and a breath of saltiness.  There is not a lot of staying power here and the tequila has a really light and breezy quality to it.

Rating: 3.75/5

Don Julio Blanco

Another one of my favorites, Don Julio is smooth with a nice feeling of warmth and a subtle yet lingering aftertaste that really brings out the flavor of the Agave.

Rating: 4/5

Don Ramon Reposado

A light tequila with vanilla and Floral notes.  There is a spicy burn that is stronger than I would have expected which lends just a slight bit of harshness to the tequila.  Nothing fancy but I would enjoy this as a decent change-up for my regular tequilas.

Rating: 3.5/5
El Destilador  Extra Anejo

I was actually quite pleasantly surprised by this tequila.  I wasn't expecting much because of the low price of an extra anejo, but this is extremely tasty.  A warm smoothness washes over your tongue with a bit of cinnamon and brown sugar.  Woody overtones are prevalent too.  This is surprisingly delicious and I will now investigate the rest of this brand further based on the quality of this one.

Rating: 4.25/5
El Diamante Del Cielo

A really smooth tequila that has a warm, inviting agave flavor with a brown sugar accent.  The aftertaste is gone almost immediately which is a negative for me.

Rating: 3.5/5
El Reformador Anejo

Somehow I remember this being better, but in general this is just an upper middle tequila.  A solid flavor of wood and cinnamon that feels full and fills the tongue like a blanket.  A hint of sour smoke with a mild burn set the tone for the aftertaste.

Rating: 3.75/5
El Reformador Reposado

Vanilla and an undercurrent of spice come in waves in this warm and delicious tequila.  There is also a subtle earthiness to the tequila.  I think the repo actually does better for me than the Anejo which is rare for a tequila.  There a comforting familiarity that this tequila brings to the table which I think is really nice.

Rating: 3.75/5
El Zarco Gold

A buttery Vanilla initial flavor with a slight peppery aftertaste.  It has a mild bite to it but in general is very smooth.

Rating: 4/5
Gran Centenario Reposado

I have held off on trying this tequila for a very long time.  Not sure why, I think it just bores me somehow.  But now that I tried it, I can see I wasn't really missing much.  A warm oaky flavor and a decent amount of burn hits you up front.  A salty sourness settles in but somehow remains smooth and somewhat enjoyable.  Overall this is not too interesting a tequila but a decent, middle-of-the-road selection.

Rating: 3/5
HuiZaChe Tequila Silver

This is an affordable tequila that does really well. While not as good as Milagro, it still is light years ahead of its peers.  A crisp minty, peppery flavor hits straight from the outset.  There is an ample alcoholic burn, but that doesn't detract too much from the citrus undercurrent and vnilla accents.  Pretty good, especially for the price.

Rating: 3/5
Kah Tequila Extra Anejo

A thick, and stout flavor,  Lots of spice and a tingly burn flood the tongue.  Undercurrents of oak and citrus with an accent of cinnamon.  A smoky vanilla sits on the edge of the mouth as a lingering aftertaste.  This is a tequila that isn't shy about its flavor but still doesn't overwhelm the taster.  Not sure it's worth the high price tag though.

Rating: 4.5/5
Kah Tequila Anejo

A softer and smoother flavor to the Reposado version of this brand.  A hint of smokiness laces the caramel and oak overtones as this tequila rests on the tongue.  There is also a slight taste of vanilla buried deep in here.  This is a warm and relaxing tequila that delivers a mature overall taste.

Rating: 4/5
Kah Tequila Reposado

Kah Reposado is an overproofed tequila (bottled at 110 Proof).  This overproofing really packs a punch, lots of peppery burn.  Woody overtones with a cinnamon zing really gives this tequila a loud voice.  I'll admit the first time I had this tequila I was unimpressed, but I think I may have been overwhelmed by the alcoholic fire, but upon reinvestigation it is surprisingly smooth.  Delicious and it makes a statement!

Rating: 4/5
Kah Tequila Blanco

Citrus and oak are laced with a minty taste and a delicious sourness.  There is a nice crispness to this tequila.  Finally, there is a light hint of pepper that lingers on the edge of the tongue.  And it needs to be said, this is probably the coolest bottle of any tequila you will come across.

Rating: 3.5/5
Karma Tequila Silver

A zesty pepper taste with a nice soft edge floods my mouth as I sip on this surprisingly well priced tequila.  A warm wood and butter aftertaste leaves a lingering sweetness on my tongue.  This tequila is a nice surprise.

Rating: 4/5
Manana Tequila Anejo

I was mega excited when the local store got in this tequila.  I had heard good things about it and I was not disappointed. A soft inviting tequila with a warm vanilla and butter taste.  Oaky Agave tones swoop in to add depth and complexity to the tequila.  Delicious.

Rating: 4.5/5
Metl Anejo

A robust peppery and metallic taste that drifts into a slightly sour agave wave of flavor.  A sizzling burn accompanies this one but quickly fades with a hint of smokiness to finish it off.

Rating: 3.5/5
Nocaut Tequila Anejo

A salty and vanilla mixture with a nice burn are the initial strikes that this tequila makes upon your mouth.  Soft and sour oak notes also dance around the edges of my tongue.  Once again I am reminded of a less interesting Don Julio.

Rating: 3.5/5
Nocaut Tequila Reposado

A light glimmer of Agave with minimal burn and a subtle warmth of wood and brown sugar.  Like a thinner tasting Don Julio.

Peligroso Anejo

Smoother, but with less snap on the tongue is the Anejo version of this delightful brand.  A subtle hint of chocolate and cinnamon, and an almost palpable accent of peppers make for an exciting and robust flavor.  It still possesses the 42 percent alcohol that makes Peligroso so dangerous.  The bottle is also quite enjoyable with its black-on-black design.

Rating: 4/5

Peligroso Reposado

This is a fiery tequila with a sweetness that glows with a cinnamon tinged burn.  I was surprised at how quickly I fell in love with this.  Delicious with a nice kick.

Rating: 4/5

Peligroso Silver

A silvery tequila with a hint of vanilla and peppers.  It sits on the tongue really well and feel so smooth and delicate.  However the tequila flavor doesn't last too long though so I was mildly disappointed about that.

Rating: 3.5/5
Penacho Azteca Reposado

Warm, and soft caramel and vanilla combination coats your mouth with this tequila.  There is an overall subtle agave sweetness in the aftertaste. The flavor lingers without any harshness and the burn is a deep one that is internal rather than sitting on the back of your tongue.  So basically I am saying this is a smooth tequila with a really classy finish to it.

Rating: 4/5
Porfidio Plata

An initial peppery rush followed by a slow simmer.  Smooth Agave with a hint of citrus and an oily finish.  The spicy aftertaste lingers on the roof of my mouth.

Rating: 3.75/5

Raza Azteca Reposado

A floral yet slightly bitter taste hits your tongue intially.  The flavor is light but soon fills out to a heavier vanilla and pepper taste with a nice hint of smoke as the tequila fades off the back of the tongue.  So it starts off shakily but ends strong.  Overall a nice, solid tequila.

Rating: 3.5/5

Reserva Del Senor Silver

A light vanilla and pepper flavor that has a slight burn and the aftertaste vanishes quite quickly.  Nice but the price is a little too high considering the short life of the taste upon the tongue.

Rating: 3.75/5

Rudo Anejo

Warm and comforting, less aggressive than the repo and blanco, the anejo is smoother and softer, in a good way.  Still peppery, yet flourishes of caramel and butter rise up to reveal hints of vanilla.  There is a nice simmering burn to finish off this tequila.  Subtler and more complex, the Rudo anejo is a joy for my tongue and surpasses the repo and blanco of this brand.

Rating: 4.25/5

Rudo Reposado

A robust tequila with a heavy pepper taste.  Earthy notes, accented by wood and a shade of peanuts.  This has a very full, somewhat in your face flavor.  It is definitely not shy, but in a good way.

Rating: 4/5

Rudo Blanco

A smooth flame spreads across my mouth as I sip at this intense blanco.  Beneath the fire you can discern oak and floral notes.  The burning in this blanco never seems harsh, it just feels energetic and intense.  The smoothness is ever present, and serves to reveal earthy copper undertones.  Not as good as the repo, but still a surprisingly good tequila.

Rating: 3.75/5

Sangre De Vida Mezcal

Ah, the smoky depth of flavor that bursts forth from a good mezcal, and this is a good mezcal.  Smooth, yet robust, there is pillowy soft layer of flower and butter lurking beneath the charred overtones.  The thing about mezcal for me is that it has some similarities to tequila, but it has such a different level of complexity and character due to the burning preparation.  This is one of the best mezcals I have ever tasted.  Deeee-lish!

Rating: 4.25/5

Sangre De Vida Anejo

Wow, this is a beautiful tequila!  My tongue was seduced immediately. Twists of chocolate and vanilla dance on the edges of my mouth.  A smoldering heat sneaks up on you while oak lingers underneath. It finishes with a dash of fire and sits with a whisp of butter as the flavor slowly fades.  Delicious.  Can't wait to try this again and again.

Rating: 4.5/5

Sangre De Vida Reposado

A sweeter and spicier breed than its blanco brother, the reposado from Sangre De Vida is bold and smooth with a fiery edge.  Hints of cinnamon and citrus caress the tongue.  The after taste is a little too swift but leaves a slight buttery flavor to linger which I enjoy a lot.

Rating: 4/5

Sangre De Vida Blanco

Waves of smoky and oaky currents wash over my tongue.  Floral notes and a hints of attractive sourness.  A bit of saltiness chases down the throat for a bold and attractive taste.  This is a slight aftertaste of chocolate/caramel twist that lingers and the aftertaste really takes this tequila up a level.  I have been pleasantly surprised by this delicious tequila which came out of nowhere.

Rating: 4/5

Seis Hermanas Anejo

A soft peppery and floral set of flavors washes over my tongue upon first taste.  However there is a long afretaste of sweet vanilla that settles in and warms me.  There is a hint of butter within the mix as well.

Rating: 3.5/5
Sol Azul Reposado

This reminds me of the Casa Noble repo quite a bit because of its really distinct taste.  A short bit of sourness that is quickly overwhelmed by vanilla and spice accents.  A very smooth and oily body that burns a tiny bit as it goes down.

Rating: 4/5
Tecnico Anejo Tequila

Smooth and a bit lighter than I would have expected for an Anejo.  Shades of pepper and vanilla with slight oaky hints.  This is good, but surprisingly not as spectacular as the Reposado version from Tecnico.  But with that being said, it sits well on the tongue and doesn't have an ounce of harshness to it.

Rating: 4/5
Tecnico Reposado Tequila

This is perhaps the most sensuous tequila I have tasted.  Chocolate undercurrents with a sizzling edge to it.  Earthy Flavors flow through your mouth ushering in woody accents.  There is a very smooth and caramel-esque aftertaste that soothes the fire.  I am not sure if I prefer the robustness of Rudo or the cool sophistication of Tecnico.  Either way, this is deeeeelish!

Rating: 4/5
Tenoch Reposado Tequila

Smokiness and peppery overtones reveal a sweet honey tinted agave.  The first drink is fairly harsh for the price but after a few swigs it turns smooth.

Rating: 3.5/5
Tequila Ocho Plata

This is a clean and smooth tequila that has a balanced oaky and agave flavor with a tiny hint of cinnamon and with slight floral notes.  An undercurrent of earthiness brings this to completion and I must say I am really digging this a lot.

Rating: 4.5/5
Tezon Tequila Blanco

A soft tequila with a light flavor of liquorice and pepper.  A hint of citrus lingers on the fringes of this tequila as well.  The aftertaste quickly disappears and there is a slight but unimposing burn.  Tezon is nice and warm but unexciting.  It is a solid tequila that is delicious but loses itself by comparison to some of the other tequilas in its price range.

Rating: 3.5/5
Tonala Anejo

A very smooth and velvety feel as it covers your tongue.  The flavor is caught somewhere between cinnamon and butter with hints of vanilla and caramel.  It's almost like a spicier Don Julio 1942.  A very worthwhile tequila, especially for its price.  Very delicious.

Rating: 4.5/5
Trago Silver Tequila

An earthy pepper taste with a slight salty bitterness that greets my tongue with a velvety vanilla aftertaste.  I'll be honest, I expected more after reading such high prasie on other tequila websites.

Tres Agaves Anejo

A rush of pepper and slippery cinnamon hits you outright as you consume this delicious elixer.  There is quite a burn even from the outset, but it is not harsh.  There is a smooth undercurrent of vanilla and caramel and I am left with a clean palate soon after the tequila leaves my mouth.  Deliciously complex.

Rating: 4/5

Tres Manos Anejo

An initial peppery burn succumbs to vanilla and brown sugar notes.  Smooth but with a decent crackling burn that lets you know you are delving into dangerous agave territory.  Floral accents lurk within the aftertaste.

Rating: 4/5

Hacienda De Chihuahua Anejo (Sotol)

I might have a new favorite.  This is veeeery smooth with an almost buttery flavor with subtle hints of caramel and flowers.  A delicate long lasting aftertaste with a slight brassy taste that tickles the back of my tongue.

Rating: 5/5

Hussong's Tequila Reposado

I might have a new favorite. THis tastes somewhat chocolaty with warm hints of mint and tiny accents of vanilla too.  THis tequila is silky smooth and rests easily in the mouth.  No alcohol burn but the aftertaste is shorlived.

Rating: 4/5
La Fogata Anejo (Mezcal)

La Fogata is a mezcal which exudes a robust, up-front smoky taste with a hint of bitterness.  However this is surprisingly smooth with a nice smoky agave aftertaste that lingers.  To sum up, imagine a smooth tequila that has a deep smoky sourness that is immediately recognizable.

Rating: 4/5

Los Azulejos Reposado

A tequila repo with a surprisingly smoky taste.  An oily earthy flavor prevails with a medium burn.  Full of life and flavor but at the same time, not as smooth as I hoped.

Partida Anejo

Partida once again delivers a tequila with a light floral flavor and a pleasant amount of sourness.  The Anejo has a really clean feel to it with an earthy vanilla aftertaste.

Rating: 3.5/5

Partida Reposado

A soft, warm flavor of agave with earthy undertones greets my tastebuds.  However there is also a trace of saltiness and a decent burn on the back of my tongue. A smooth aftertaste though helps to balance this out.

Frida Kahlo Anejo

Like its reposado sister, the Anejo from Frida Kahlo is spicy yet warm and inviting at the same time.  Earthy caramel and cinnamon are the major flavors that accent the agave.  The flavor has a really full feeling to it.  Simply delicious.

Rating: 4.5/5
Frida Kahlo Reposado

A warm and really smooth tequila with a peppery intial wave with hints of cinnamon and vanilla.  Faint echoes of brown sugar sit on the back of the tongue.  A really great, unassuming tequila.

Dos Lunas Anejo

After some time and distance from the Blanco version of this tequila I was treated to the Anejo.  And I must say, it is delicious.  Overflowing with flavor that has a buttery vanilla edge with a hint of smokiness.  The undercurrent of woodiness adds complexity as well.  It's quite smooth and finishes out with a subtle burn that livens up the tongue as it fades.

Better than the blanco, but not as good as the Anejo, the Dos Lunas Repo has a warmness present in its brethren.  There is a soft, oaky and vanilla flavor that eases me into sipping this fine tequila.  Undercurrents of butter with floral notes keeps this smooth and light with a nice balance of complexity and subtlety.

Rating: 4/5
Dos Lunas Blanco

This double distilled tequila has a warm and soothing first approach. The Agave flavor is warm though not overly strong. The overall feeling is of a smooth and refreshing tequila with a light aftertaste. Nice but not outstanding.

Milagro Special Barrel Reserve Anejo

One of the most elegant bottles I have seen.  But what does it hold?  A warm, robust tequila with earthy overtones and subtles hints of cinnamon and brown sugar.  The taste is really hard though.  A nice afterglow pervades.

Rating: 4.5/5
Milagro Anejo

This tequila is better than I remember.  A hint of butter and warm wood.  There is a salty oakiness to the main flavor of the tequila.  But there is also a decent burn that sits on the middle of the tongue.  A bit of a harsher finish than I would like but I find I can't beat the flavor for the price.

Rating: 3.5/5
Milagro Reposado

A nice medium range tequila with a strong initial wave of earthy Agave flavor followed by a subtle yet spicy burn.

Rating: 3/5

Milagro Silver

An explosion of woody, slightly bitter Agave and alcohol burn flows over the tongue sitting mainly in the middle.  The salty, sour quality continues through until the flavor fades which gives Milagro its own character.

Tequila Somanque Anejo

I haven't heard anything about this tequila before but it turns out to be smooth, with a hint of sweetness, wood, and caramel.  A nice calm aftertaste that disappears a little too quickly though.

Rating: 4/5

Herradura Reposado

A light tasting tequila that is somewhat acrid at first but provides a soft and mildly sweet aftertaste that quickly fades.

Rating: 3/5

Herradura Anejo

More expensive than I would think would merit based on the flavor which has more bite than I would like and has virtually no aftertaste for an Anejo.

Rating: 3/5

Herradura Blanco

A sweet, bready flavor flows out from this tequila.  There is a creaminess and a woodiness to it as well.  It definitely has a fair amount of burn and a lingering aftertaste.  I have never been much of a fan of Herradura, and the blanco sure isn't going to change my opinion as it is my least favorite from their family of tequilas.

Rating: 2.5/5

Corazon Reposado

A Nice tequila that is smooth but without much of an aftertaste so the flavor departs my mouth a little too quickly.

Rating: 4/5

Chaya Anejo

A light and smooth tequila with a pronounced agave falvor that is touched by hints of vanilla, caramel and Coconut.  There is a nice middle tongue burn from this tequila that is not overpowering.

Rating: 4/5
Chaya Silver

Earthy overtones mix with floral hints and a spicy accent.  The Agave flaovr is very pronounced and this is a really enjoyable Silver tequila.

Rating: 4/5
El Tesoro De Don Felipe Platinum

A subtle smokiness and strong wave of Agave hits my mouth followed by peppery and earthy undertones and a smooth burn with floral hints.  The aftertaste is long and potent.

Rating: 4/5

Don Valente Reposado

This one took awhile to grow on me despite lots of recommendation.  Woody tones with a deep sugary accent.  Accents of Mexican earth and a bit of floral and citrus hints.

Rating: 4/5
Del Dueno Anejo

A Fairly expensive bottle of Tequila with a strong woody flavor and a surprisingly strong amount of bite.

Rating: 3/5

El Mayor Anejo

A good tequilTres Manos Anejo

An initial peppery burn succumbs to vanilla and brown sugar notes.  Smooth but with a decent crackling burn that lets you know you are delving into dangerous agave territory.  Floral accents lurk within the aftertaste.

Rating: 4/5

a with a strong woody flavor.  It has a small amount of bite to it and it has a heavy aftertaste.

Rating: 3.5/5

El Mayor Reposado

Not as complex or as deep of the flavors found in the anejo, this repo is light and has a lot of bite.  Some earthy vanilla can be found after the intial burn subsides.  Depsite the bite, this tequila still remains smooth.  The bite is not harsh somehow.

Rating: 3/5
El Mayor Blanco

The Blanco of this line is not as woody as the Anejo and is actually quite refreshing.  There is a hint of citrus on the very edge as well as floral notes that come to the foreground.  A nice peppery overtone delivers a smooth burn to your palate.  This is really hitting the spot for me tonight.  Despite that, it is still not much above average.

Don Fulano Silver

A relatively new one for me, this one has a strange bitter initial taste that I am not huge on, but a smooth and warm aftertaste that balances this out.

Rating: 3/5

Casa Noble Anejo

A somewhat sweeter experience than I expected.  Smooth with a distinct sourness that accentuates the buttery sweet vanilla overtones.  Almost no burn at all.

Rating: 4.5/5

Casa Noble Reposado

I had high expectations for this one and it didn't disappoint.  A smooth tasting Reposado with a nice Agave flavor with a hint of vanilla and a tiny bit of sourness.  It tingles the back of my tongue nicely.

Rating: 4/5

Casa Noble Blanco

One of the more complex blancos out there.  A wash of sourness and pepper hit your taste buds before gentle calm settles in with a vanilla tinged agave.  The oily flavor lingers for some time.

Rating: 4/5

Don Eduardo Anejo

This is my favorite tequila I have tasted so far.  Very smooth with a warm and woody aftertaste that lingers.

Rating: 5/5

Don Eduardo Silver

Don Eduardo proves once again why this is my favorite brand of tequila with this triple distilled silver.  Not as powerful a flavor as their anejo but just as smooth.  The Silver has a nice Agave blast that is somewhat sweet and sour while retaining the purity of its earthy beauty. There is zero bite and a spicy, medium-length aftertaste.

Rating: 4.5/5
Maracame Anejo

One of my new favorites.  Maracame has a smooth woody and earthy flavor with hints of vanilla and a salty aftertaste.  The aftertaste is light though and fades quickly.

Rating: 4.5/5

1921 Anejo

A surprisingly light flavor for an anejo with a mild amount of alcohol burn.  However, this is my favorite of the 1921 brands.  A sour accent hovers above light brown sugar and caramel.  Also Oak notes linger within overall flavor of agave.

Rating: 3.5/5
1921 Reposado

A warm agave that hits the roof of the mouth.  Hints of Vanilla and pepper wash over the back of the tongue.  The flavor fades quickly and is accented by saltiness.

Rating: 3.5/5

1921 Blanco

I had really high hopes for this tequila.  But its initial sharp alcohol burn is a little much.  The aftertaste is smooth with a pleasant bitterness with hints of cinnamon and citrus.  A little too quick to disappear though.

Rating: 3.5/5

Herencia de Plata Anejo

Initial wash of earthy sourness with a slight citrus hint.  But the real magic for this tequila is in the warm caramel aftertaste that lurks on the back of the tongue.

Rating: 3.5/5

Herencia de Plata  Reposado

My favorite of the Herencia de Plata tequilas.  An almost creamy rush of Agave with hints of vanilla and caramel.  A really smooth tequila though the aftertaste is too quickly faded.

Rating: 3.75/5

Herencia de Plata  Silver

A peppery initial wave with hints of citrus and a light bitterness though the finish is smooth but rather short lived.  Virtually no alcohol burn is present.  Solid, though not as good as the Anejo.

Rating: 3/5

Buen Amigo Reposado

I am not a big fan of this tequila.  It has a robust and distinct whiskey flavor to it.  I think this has to do with the heavy char barrels used to age this reposado.  Smokey Agave settles in with the aftertaste which possess a decent burn.  On the upside I really like the bottle this comes in and the golden hue of this tequila is very appealing.

Rating: 2.5/5
Tres Generaciones Anejo

A nice clean Agave flavor with a small amount of smokiness and a whimsical hint of liquorice.  The wood flavor is subtle but the taste lingers lightly on the tongue for awhile.

Rating: 3/5

Maestro Dobel Diamond Tequila

This tequila is very subtle.  It almost looks like a Vodka in its packaging.  A strong peppery wave washes over your tongue with a nice smoothness and a mild Agave flavor that fades quickly.  The whole flavor of the Agave in this blend of Anejo, Extra Anejo and Reposado is very mild and disappears fast with the remaining pepper notes sitting on the tongue accented by Vanilla.

Rating: 3.5/5

Jose Cuervo Reserva De La Familia Anejo

I had heard good things about this product from Cuervo.  I must admit I was a little disappointed.  This tequila possesses a strong smoky and brown sugar taste to it.  There is a buried sweetness to its body.  A stronger burn than expected as well.  Nothing terrible but certainly I have had better.

Rating: 3/5

Jose Cuervo Tradicional Reposado

Jose Cuervo usually means garbage for me but this one is decent though unspectacular.  It has a somewhat sweet flavor with a dusty aftertaste.

Rating: 2.5/5

Jose Cuervo Black Medallion Anejo

This is not good at all.  It has a smokey initial taste with lots of alcohol burn and it really tastes more like a Bourbon than a tequila.  The Agave flavor is deeply buried.  Avoid this.

Rating: 1/5

Cabo Wabo Anejo

A little bitter initially with a light woody flavor with floral hints and a salty aftertaste.  Not a very robust or lasting flavor like most Anejos.

Rating: 3/5

Cabo Wabo Reposado

The more I drink of this the less happy I become.  Cabo Wabo for its price should be better but it burns somewhat and has a salty undercurrent to its flavor.

Rating: 2.5/5

Cabo Wabo Blanco

I am not huge on Cabo wabo and this blanco illustrates why.  It has a burning sensation and a peppery flavor as soon as it hits your mouth.  There is also an underlying saltiness to it that tickles my tongue.  It is not smooth at all, so for its price it is not really worth it.

Rating: 2/5
El Espolon Reposado

Peppery with hints of sugar and vanilla, plus a slow agave burn that fades fast and simmers on the taste buds.

Rating: 4/5

El Espolon Silver

A good tequila with a nice peppery flavor and a small amount of of bite.
