Trash the Graveyard
Demo 2007
Self-released 2007
Primitive and filthy as hell comes the latest in a long line of great Norwegian
thrash bands to surface in recent years. Trash the Graveyard combines the
murkiness and grime of early Sodom with the riffing style of Celtic Frost. Not
to compare to their contemporaries but Trash the Graveyard sound like a younger
and less refined version of Ghoul-cult. The Pale Master starts things off
on the right now with a crushing bass heavy riff. Abomination and
Rendevouz of the Desecrator sound like they could have been lifted off of Morbid
Tales, well actually they are too primitive, maybe Morbid Tales' demo sessions.
heh heh. The Stairs has a throbbing and rampaging main riff which calls to
mind Sodom's Blasphemer before it churns out some Flawless Celtic Frost stomping
as a complimentary break from the song's menace. The only song that is
sort of weak on the demo is the last track, Surrealistic Graveyard which sounds
like it is not as focused as the rest of the material. But for a view into
the future of this band look no further into Medieval Torture which is the most
developed song on the release with its filth heaped on the twisting riffs and
probably the catchiest material here. Animator's vocals are strained and
dry which suits the mood of these songs perfectly. The production on this
release is notably primitive and basement sounding which implies a small budget
for its production. It'll be interesting to see whether they can maintain
the magic from this release once the sound is cleaned up in a professional
studio on future releases. Based upon the musical gems found on this demo
and with the current state of the thrash revival I am certain that these guys
will be encountering record deals soon. Thrash!!!!
